Fireflies.

Last night I went on a hike through the woods. The sky was overcast and gray, blotting out the moon. When wandering beneath the boughs and limbs of oak and maple, the world was almost totally black. At first I walked by instinct alone but soon was guided by the light of countless fireflies along the way. I refrained from carefully watching my steps or putting my hands out before me, I simply surrendered to the moment and walked through the darkness. After a few miles I came to an opening in the trees that led to a cornfield, covered in the still shin-high sprouts of early July. While I had been underneath the wooden roof of the forest, the sky had cleared and dappled stars pierced the blackness. It was there that I meditated; Qi Gong, a moving meditation similar in some ways to Tai Chi. Grounding myself in the Earth and expanding myself towards the stars, I was whole.

~Haiku: Fireflies.

The summer moon is hidden.
Fireflies guide me,
lighting their little lanterns.
